About UDESO

Our History

The Usevya Development Society (UDESO) began as a community-based initiative formed by a small group of people in Usevya Ward who came together to help the community — contributing items such as clothing, food, and other necessities — after realizing that some people and children were living in difficult conditions. They saw this as an opportunity to offer assistance.

Later on, the organization continued to grow, and it was decided that it should be formally registered so it could operate officially, have the capacity to apply for funding both locally and internationally, and also collaborate with the government, as working with the government is essential. UDESO was therefore officially registered on September 23, 2005, under NGO Act of 2002 made under section 12 (2) of Act. No. 24 of 2002 and on September 23, 2025, it will celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The name UDESO was chosen because the initial community efforts and planning started in Usevya, and the group also received significant advice and support from the former Prime Minister, Hon. Mizengo P. Pinda, who helped greatly and continues to provide valuable guidance — contributing to the organization’s current success.

Since its founding, UDESO has been providing various forms of assistance from both local and international institutions. Since 2005, the organization has not faced any major challenges in service delivery. It has been offering services in areas such as health care, support for orphans and vulnerable children, internet and technology initiatives, environmental protection, and more — all in collaboration with the government and other development partners.
